Who Invented the Motorcycle is a question where historians are confused to answer. Answer to Who Invented the Motorcycle which runs on gas is Gottlieb
Daimler .
Gottlieb Daimler - Inventor of Gas Powered Motorcycle
Gottlieb Wilhelm Daimler is the father of modern motor history. Gottlieb Diamler's inventions including internal combustion engine, in early 1880’s, contributed a great deal to the emergence of the automobile industry. Gottlieb
Daimler was born on 1834 for a master baker and his wife in Germany. Daimler
Started his technical education in 1848 and he was 14 yr old simultaneously
worked as a Gunsmith's Apprentice.
Gottlieb Daimler
had interest in locomotive industry right from his child hood and that made him take up a one year course in engineering. Gottlieb
Daimler worked for many engineering firms in France and England, Daimler
joined Bruderhaus Maschinen-Fabrik as a manager. Gottlieb Daimler met William Maybach there who later turned to be a great companion in
his inventions. during late 1860's, Gottlieb Daimler joined the Maschinenbaugesellschaft Karlsruhe as a chairman and soon Gottlieb
Daimler signed up Maybach as a chief director. soon Gottlieb Daimler and Maybach formed an inseparable team.
During their time there, his friend Nicolas
August Otto developed his four stroke engine and Gottlieb Daimler realized that this smaller, lighter engine would replace the larger gasoline engines of the
time. Gottlieb Daimler felt it very interesting . Taking inspiration from that, Daimler with his friends Otto and Maybach developed their first lighter internal combustion engine for propelling road vehicles. soon Daimler left the firm as he and his colleagues had difference of
opinion in their plan.
After parting ways with Otto in 1892, Gottlieb Daimler with his friend Maybach started their own company entirely focusing on producing the first light-weight, high-speed engine to run on gasoline. soon Gottlieb Daimler and maybach together created their second engine with a surface carburetor. This new system vaporized the gasoline and mixed it with air, thus giving their engine 900 revolutions per minute. Gottlieb
Daimler considered this as a great achievement compared to their previous invention with otto, gave only 130 revolutions per minute.
After their second invention Gottlieb
Daimler and maybach were only concerned with testing their new fast-running combustion engine in a simple vehicle with an uncomplicated steering system. This experimental vehicle had their four-stroke one-cylinder engine with 0.5hp power output at 700rpm.
Gottlieb Daimler
tested his engine successfully on a two wheeled conveyance and went on to try his engine as the power source for a bicycle. Gottlieb
Daimler fitted their second engine to a bicycle and the first motorcycle was introduced in the month of November 1885. Daimler named his new vehicle as "Reitwagen" or “riding car", and it was also called as “Bone Crusher” for its jarring ride and its habit of throwing riders. There started the motorcycle history.
