Genichi Kawakami - Founder of Yamaha Motorcycles
Torakusu Yamaha expired in 1916 and Nippon Gakki was solely
managed by Genichi kawakami's father Kaichi. Kaichi became the president of Nippon Gakki in 1927.
Genichi Kawakami graduated from Takachiho College of Commerce was considered to be an
young brain with the right business acumen.
Genichi Kawakami joined Nippon Gakki in 1937 and became its president in 1950. Genichi bis credited with
revolutionizing the manufacturing process of pianos and Renamed the Nippon Gakki to Yamaha corporation in memory of the founder Torakusu yamaha.
After the defeat of Japan in the world war II Genichi Kawakami was faced with biggest question mark in his life related to the survival of Yamaha corporation. With a war shattered japanese economy, Yamaha has to find a way to make use of the machine shop, factories and skilled workers. Genichi Kawakami thought that his machines can be best used for making motorcycles. Thus the company was renamed to Yamaha Motor corporation.
Yamaha Motor Corporation introduced its first motorcycle YA-1 in the year 1955. Under Genichi Kawakami's leadership Yamaha motorcycle grew to become one of the world's largest manufacturer of powerful and finest motorcycles.
Genichi Kawakami is also credited with developing Japan's first electronic organ and also diversification of business to reduced the risk. Mr. Kawakami served as president from 1950 to 1977, and again from 1980 to 1983. He held the position of chairman until 1992, at which time he became a Corporate Advisor to the company until his death.
